Art Fair – Progress report and opportunities to volunteer

Minnesota Point Preservation Society Update from April meeting

Minnesota Point Preservation Society is working on nominating the shoreline of Minnesota Point become a designated recreational trail by the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission (GMRPTC). The application for this project will require a collaboration with the City of Duluth who previously applied for funding through this program.

We believe the entirety of the Lake Superior shoreline of Minnesota Point, along with the shoreline of Superior Bay from 40th St to the Superior Entry (10 miles total) would offer the best chance of obtaining the recognition and funding for such a regional and state treasure for creating outdoor recreational opportunities.
Besides the obvious water/beach opportunities, we would plan to include cultural components such as historical site recognition for early explorers, Native American burials, first Coast Guard survey points (restoration of the Old Light House, and adjoining facilities), Aerial Bridge, canals, breakwaters, and WPA projects from the 1930s conducted along Minnesota Point.

Hoping to see you tonight at the meeting!
