Park Point Summer Youth Program

Registration Open for Park Point Summer Youth Program 2018, details below.

Open House: Thursday, April 26, 5:30-7:00 pm, Lafayette Club House, 3026 Minnesota Ave. Park Point

Come meet the staff, tour the park and sign up.

Youth Program Expectations 2018

Please send the registration form and the at least half ($250) of the full-time registration fee or one week ($100) if attending weekly. Checks payable to:  PPCC

The cost for the nine week program:

$500.00 for the first child per family

$425.00 for any child thereafter, same family

$100 per week

$30 per day

Field trip costs are additional and typically run $5-$10

The kids ride the DTA and the fee is included in registration

Please remember space is limited, giving first priority to Park Point residents and relatives of Park Pointers. Confirmation will be sent as registrations are received.

The 2017 program staff are returning for 2018, Kevin Chederquist and Karen Boynton. Kevin is a teacher at Duluth Denfeld High School and Karen is a student at UMD studying education. They have many fun ideas for summer and are excited lead the program again this year.

The Summer Youth program is for ages 5 years old (completed Kindergarten) thru 12 years old and kids who want to have an especially amazing action packed super summer from June 11th thru August 9th, (CLOSED July 4th). The Program opens at 8:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm, Monday through Thursday at the Lafayette Club House at 3026 Minnesota Ave. Plan to spend the entire summer or just a few weeks or days, the choice is yours. The Program includes gardening at the PP Edible Garden, going to the Beach, field trips, educational sessions, crafts and activities at Lafayette Community Center.

A survey of grandparents and parents indicated that the 2017 Program was positively received with parents supporting the flexibility of staff, open play and hours.

Cindy Hakala from Starry Skies Duluth has agreed to give a talk on the effects of light pollution at our March Meeting.   Light noise can interfere with sleep with humans and flight with birds.  Different light colors have different effects, see how this might be affecting your world and our world.

    • The HTAC is a working group that addresses challenges and opportunities in the Duluth-Superior harbor, while promoting the port’s economic and environmental importance to both communities. It is the only stakeholder group of its kind in the country.
    • From last meeting,”The presentation at HTAC showed the 10/2017 storm damage and what might be done to restore the erosion damage, depending on funding availability. Plans as shown are for more of the same: stop-gap, short term fixes using maintenance dredging as source materials for “beach nourishment.” G. Glass MPPS, PPCC, HTAC

Skating on Park Point-Thank you to Volunteers and the City of Duluth Crews!

Thanks to the continued support from the City of Duluth and Park Point volunteers, skating at Lafayette is now a go!

The lower level will be open when volunteers are available to facilitate opening and closing, hours will be posted here.

Assistance with rink maintenance and building cleaning & tidying, would be most appreciated and is vital to the  success of skating at Lafayette.
